Walking Lunges

Why Do It?
Walking lunges are functional locomotion. They mimic the demands of hiking up steep grades or stepping over deadfall. They build dynamic stability and endurance in the quads and glutes, which will save your legs on long approaches.
Execution
- Stand tall with feet together (loaded with dumbbells or a pack).
- Take a large step forward.
- Lower your back knee until it kisses the ground (control the descent).
- Drive through the front heel to stand up and bring your back foot forward to meet the front.
- Repeat on the other side, moving continuously forward.
Common Mistakes
- Taking steps that are too short (cramping the stride).
- Also smashing the back knee into the ground (lack of control).
- Leaning too far forward or backward (torso should be slightly leaned forward but rigid).
