Why Do It?

Pulling your own bodyweight is fundamental. Whether you are climbing a tree stand, scrambling up a rock face, or dragging a carcass, vertical pulling strength is non-negotiable for the mountain athlete.

Execution

  1. Grab the bar with a grip slightly wider than shoulder-width.
  2. Hang with arms fully extended (dead hang).
  3. Initiate the movement by driving your elbows down and back.
  4. Pull until your chin clears the bar.
  5. Lower yourself under control to the full dead hang position.

Common Mistakes

  • Kipping or using momentum to cheat the rep.
  • Not going all the way down (short-arming).
  • Rounding the shoulders forward at the top.
