Mountain Climbers

Why Do It?

Don't let the name fool you—you won't be climbing any actual mountains with this form. However, mountain climbers are fantastic for building core stability and hip flexor endurance while in a fatigued state. They teach you to move your legs rapidly while maintaining a rigid trunk.

Execution

  1. Assume a high plank position (push-up position).
  2. Brace your core tight.
  3. Drive one knee toward your chest.
  4. Quickly switch legs, extending the first leg back while driving the other knee forward.
  5. Maintain a steady rhythm ("1-2, 1-2").

Common Mistakes

  • Bouncing the hips up and down.
  • Touching the toes to the ground at the front (keep the foot hovering).
  • Rounding the upper back.
