Loaded Plank

Why Do It?
When you're packing out an elk quarter, gravity is trying to fold you in half. The loaded plank trains "anti-extension"—the ability to keep your spine neutral under heavy load. This is far more applicable to hunting than crunches.
Execution
- Assume a standard plank position on forearms.
- Have a partner place a weight plate or sandbag on your lower back/glutes.
- Brace your core as if you're about to be punched.
- Squeeze your glutes and quads.
- Hold for time without letting your hips sag or hike.
Common Mistakes
- Sagging hips (lower back pain risk).
- Head down/looking at feet (keep neck neutral).
- Holding breath (breathe through the brace).
